Shramdaan Conclave 2017: An initiative to promote Swacch Bharat Mission in Raipur

Shramdaan is not something new, as we have been doing this traditionally too. Everyone remembers the way people would come together in villages, colonies to clean up during festivals and other occasions. Shramdaan not only achieves cleanliness but also bonding between people for a cause of cleanliness. It promotes camaraderie which has its foundation in hard-work and selflessness

On the similar line, Shramdaan Conclave is being organized by the Raipur District Administration (Chhattisgarh) and the volunteer group Bunch of Fools on 15 and 16 April 2017.

The conference aims to chart a course for public participation in cleanliness and sanitation across India. It also seeks to deliberate upon channelizing the energy of the masses towards #SwachhBharat.

About Shramdaan

Shramdaan is a forum comprising citizens who have come together to take ownership of cleanliness. This is acheived by way of cleaning up public spaces. In the process, they hope to have a say in the way ‘My Clean India’ or ‘Swachh Bharat’ is being achieved in the country.

On 23 November 2015, groups from different parts of India came together for Shramdaan.
This involved coordinated efforts towards improving cleanliness and sanitation in cities. With the help of a WhatsApp group different volunteer groups pooled ideas. They shared their accomplishments, and appreciated the work done by other groups.

The Prime Minister himself acknowledged and appreciated the efforts.

Swachh Bharat

Ever since Prime Minister Narendra Modi started leading from the front with his Swachh Bharat Mission, citizens have become energetic and purposeful in working to build a clean India. This presented us with a rare opportunity to rally people around the noble cause of cleanliness, which is also the goal of Shramdaan.

Imagine a population of over 125 crores, with each one taking responsibility for keeping their space clean. It is an opportunity for everyone to stake a claim to cleanliness in their surroundings.

The two-day conclave will host eminent speakers like Temsutula Imsong, Nilesh Kumar (IAS), and O P Choudhary (IAS).
