The secret is to stay unaffected by the situation happening around. You left your home cheerfully, but on the way, you had some argument with the cabman or debate with your co-workers, and then that irritated mood was there with you for the rest of the day.
Your entire day was ruined by feeling anger, restlessness, frustration the whole day. You keep this incident in your mind that has irritated you to spoil your happiness the entire day.
How many times it has happened to you?
Lord Krishna says in Bhagwad Geeta chapter 6 verse 7
जितात्मन: प्रशान्तस्य परमात्मा समाहित: |
शीतोष्णसुखदु:खेषु तथा मानापमानयो: || 7||
Lord Krishna says that one who has conquered his mind remains balanced. If the extreme situation like the cold and hot like pleasant unpleasant and so on.
When a person is aware that all these situations can only impact his body & mind intellect, but not himself.
So he takes charge of his outlook and action while remaining calm, rather than being involved in this situation. He stands and observes.
We, humans, are so sensitive & touchy that a simple sarcastic statement by somebody can ruin our happiness, our whole day.
When somebody scolds us, we are unhappy. When somebody praises us, we are quite happy. We behave in a certain manner depending on the situation.
This means that are we puppets in hands of others, instead we should control our thoughts and feelings and not get affected by external surroundings & other people. We should maintain our balance and calm the time.
Here are a few ways you can adapt to see that in a changing situation, you remain calm and balanced all the time
1) Take a pause.
Don’t immediately start reacting to unpleasant situations. Negative people will frequently create scenarios to obtain a response from people rather than giving them that please stay calm. Stay quiet, keep smiling, don’t get affected
2) Be empathetic.
Most of the time people are not aware that they have affected you. Their words, behaviour have affected you. Instead of having a grudge against them, try and understand their perspective in life. Maybe there experiencing some negative, emotional disturbances that have caused such behaviour to speak and clear it out when the situations are calm
3) Stay emotionally detached.
Do not allow yourself to get involved in every situation which may disturb you. Be a little detached bring little vairagya in your personality & job. Don’t get affected by its results by how it appears to people or in a situation. So do your job with a balanced state of mind, with a peaceful mind, with a level headed mind
4) Quit over-analyzing.
Don’t think about that person who has behaved a little rudely or negatively. Stop thinking, if you constantly think about that unpleasant situation. That unpleasantness is going to dominate you and then cause stress and depression. Instead make conscious, to convert that negative thought into positive and happy thoughts.
5) Meditate daily
Meditation helps to keep your mind calm. To keep you focussed throughout the day, practising meditation regularly, will empower you. It will help you to take charge of yourself. Your thoughts will not get affected by all these little ups and downs in life.
Understand that everything which is happening around you is not so important. Don’t invest your energy & time into these things that do not matter to you. Invest your time and energy into the good things, that are happening around you. You just have to stay calm and do your part in a given situation when required.
