Dussehra : The Contemporary Way

The 9 days of festivities come to an end with the coming of Dussehra. Navratri is a festival of worshiping Goddess Durga, dressing up and going to the Garba.

Dussehra aka Vijaya Dashami is a festival that exemplifies the victory of good over evil, positive over negative, Rama over Ravana. Lord Rama killed Ravana is the basic fact known by even a 5-year-old today. But what exactly it is??

The bottom line of everything is that sooner or later, the good wins over evil. The festivals nowadays have lost its essence and the authenticity. We’ve been fighting against evil since ages now.

In Satya Yuga, the two worlds Devlok and Asurlok fought! The Devlok symbolizes the good and Asurlok symbolizing the evil world. In Treta Yuga, Rama and Ravana fought; the good and the bad belonging to two different countries. And in Dvapara Yuga, the fight was between the famous Pandavas and Kauravas; and surprisingly they belonged to the same family.

As time passed by, we saw that the evil was getting closer to us, closer to our roots, our values, and our culture. It came from the different world to right into our own families !!!

Have we ever thought what the evil is?? Where does it come from?? Where does it reside?? And how does it affect our life??

Well, the evil that we’re talking about is in us. It is around us in different forms. As a matter of fact, the good and the evil, both come from within us!Dussehra Raipur

We fight this battle between the positive and the negative every single day of our lives. In this Kali Yuga, the battle is inside us. The bad that we’re talking about is the jealousy, the hatred, the hypocrisy, the lies that surround us. This is a bitter truth of life that today, a brother cannot stand his own brother’s success; a sister cannot stand her own sister’s happiness. There is sibling rivalry, hatred amongst the family members. The confusion within ourselves, the unhappiness, the anger, these are the evils one should free themselves from.

We need to question ourselves regarding our values, our roots. Keeping ourselves free from these evils is necessary not for others, but for our own peace of mind. It is important to our success. The real celebration will begin when we are above these negative feelings and develop a positive aura.

The good cannot be separated from the evil; they’re like two sides of the same coin. But what matters is the choice that we make for ourselves; what matters is our perspective.

Let us just try to kill or at least suppress the evil within us and spread positivity and happiness around us and celebrate Dussehra in its true sense, every day!!
