Precautionary Covid Dose for all adults from Sunday, April 10, 2022
Good news for all 18+
The health ministry announced that all the population 18 plus age can get a precautionary dose of COVID-19 vaccine at private vaccination centers from April 10. The only criteria for having this is to have completed nine months or 39 weeks of administration of the second dose.
The beneficiary will pay the price for the 3rd dose. Unlike the first and second doses that were administered free of cost by the Government. The private centers will announce the price of the precautionary dose and the same will be reflected on the CoWin platform. The health ministry has however ruled out that the private vaccination centers can charge a maximum of Rs. 150 per dose as a service charge over and above the cost of the vaccine.
Although, there are priority groups- Healthcare workers, frontline workers, and people above 60 years of age. They are eligible to get a third dose free of cost, at government vaccination centers.
The health ministry has mandated the private vaccination centers to provide stock availability details on CoWin along with the price.
India will follow homologous vaccination for booster schedules. 3rd dose will be from the same vaccine in previous doses.
To ease the vaccination drive, the eligible citizens will receive SMS based on details of earlier vaccinations recorded on CoWin.
The beneficiaries can book the appointment both online and offline. They can also avail walk-in-vaccination.
