Talks on Women Rights by Advocate Charanjeet Singh – Tathastu

There are several laws that give women the power to fight⠀ adversities such as discrimination, harassment, violence and abuse.⠀

WOMEN SPECIFIC LEGISLATION⠀

There are several laws that give women the power to fight⠀
adversities such as discrimination, harassment, violence and abuse.⠀
Injustice meted out to women can be effectively challenged – legally, if not socially. Classified into two categories –⠀
1) Constitutional Rights⠀
2) Legal rights.⠀

Constitutional Rights⠀

Right to Equality (equal pay for equal work)⠀
Right to Vote⠀
Right to Education⠀
Right to be not arrested at night Right to register virtual complaints⠀
Right against being stalked⠀
Right to file zero FIR⠀
Right of no discrimination in employment on the ground of sex, to secure adequate means of livelihood, securing just and humane conditions of work and maternity relief etc.⠀
To eliminate the social, cultural and traditional patterns that⠀
perpetuate harmful gender stereotypes and to create an overall framework in society that promotes the realization of women’s full rights.⠀

Legal Rights⠀

“Woman’s Rights are Human Rights” particularly around the issue of violence against women, civil society activists organized tribunals to put the spotlight on violations of women’s rights, previously unaddressed because they were considered part of the private sphere, taboo or simply accepted as an inevitable part of women’s lives.⠀
As crimes against women occur every minute in india. Women are not safe, whether it is in their houses, public places or at the workplace. Your safety in your hands sounds like a clichéd adage to repeat. Are women aware about the laws or various act framed to protect them ?⠀

1. The Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006 (w.e.f 2007)⠀
2. Special Marriage Act, 1954⠀
3. Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961⠀
4. Indian Divorce Act, 1969⠀
5. Maternity Benefit Act, 1861⠀
6. Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, 1971 (w.e.f. 1972)⠀
7. Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013⠀
8. Indecent Representation of Women(Prevention) Act, 1986⠀
9. National Commission for Women Act, 1990⠀
10. Equal Remuneration Act, 1976⠀
11. Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956⠀
12. Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005⠀
