“I am Veena Shivpuri, an educationist by profession”.
Sitting near a window, sipping a steaming hot cup of tea and gazing outside, prying the nature’s beauty; she said, “I was born in Srinagar in Kashmir. My father was a resident of Lucknow where I did my schooling. I did my Masters in Sociology and got married at the tender age of 20. My husband worked in the tea industry which was under the British. At the early age of 43, my husband opted for a voluntary retirement. We had a few relatives settled in Raipur, so we came here. It was in 1983, when we came to Raipur, English wasn’t that popular as a language here and people were not so familiar with it also. I was 43, I wanted to educate young kids who were they future of our country. Mr. Sharma was planning to set up a school and named it Guardian and Guide. I was offered to be the headmistress of the school. I served in Guardian and Guide for 7 long years. Then I joined Swami Vivekananda School where I continued to serve till I was 70. I’m so much in love with my work and the kids that today at 78 years of age, I serve as a visiting faculty. I’m actively involved into various activities to keep me alive and lively. I look after the colony’s maintenance and also participate in various club activities. I started a system of education like no other school had at that time. I introduced the concept of educational tours. I would like to give this message to youth to society that as you age, when you don’t have much to look forward to, when life seems to be settled, don’t stop and keep going!!
Be happy and keep shining!!
